We’re receiving our first look of the third season of Star Wars: Visions, which includes more than a few surprises. The animated anthology series is getting a new season on October 29, 2025, and in a departure from the show’s first two seasons, it will be returning to the worlds of three previous shorts. Collider’s Maggie Lovitt shared the information and below images from her coverage at Star Wars Celebration in Shiba, Japan.
Three shorts from the show’s first season — “The Duel,” “The Village Bride,” and “The Ninth Jedi,” — will get a sequel this season. The sequels are entitled “The Duel: Payback,” “The Lost Ones,” and “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope.” The same studios that animated them will return for the sequel, as well: Kamikaze Douga, Kinema Citrus, and Production I.G., respectively. Collider first reported the possibility of a follow-up to “The Duel” when voice actor Brian Tee, who played the wanderer known as Ronin in that short, revealed that he was making an imminent return to the Star Wars universe.
What Are the All-New Shorts in This Season of ‘Star Wars: Visions’?
New entries from Star Wars Visions this season include “Yoku’s Treasure,” from Kinema Citrus, which will feature an adorable bear-like creature named Billy with a microwave in his chest; “The Smuggler,” from Studio Trigger, concerning a Han Solo-like scoundrel; “The Bounty Hunters,” from Wit Studio, which will center around a suspiciously handsome businessman who hires a bounty hunter; “The Song of Nine Wings,” from Studio Project Q; “The Bird of Paradise,” from Polygon Pictures, which is rooted in Japanese culture and customs; and “Black,” from David Productions, which has a Stormtrooper as its main character.
What Is ‘Star Wars: Visions Presents’?
The third season of Visions wasn’t the only thing teased at the panel. It also served to announce Star Wars: Visions Presents, a totally separate spin0off series. No longer constrained by the length of a short, Visions Presents will tell long-form stories in the Star Wars galaxy. The show’s first season will be based on “The Ninth Jedi,” one of the shorts from Season 1 that’s also getting a continuation in Season 3. Animated by I.G. Productions (no relation to droid bounty hunter IG-88) and written and directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex), it takes place generations after the apparent extinction of the Jedi. Seven surviving Jedi are invited to a planet to receive new lightsabers, but six of them turn out to be Sith impostors. The only real Jedi among them will have to gather a band of allies and fight for his life. The original story featured the voices of Kimiko Glenn, Simu Liu, and Masi Oka. Star Wars: Visions Presents will debut in 2026.
Premiering in 2021, Star Wars: Visions presents Star Wars shorts from a variety of animation studios, out of “mainstream” Star Wars continuity. While the first season exclusively featured Japanese animation studios, the second season included studios from all over the world, including the UK’s Aardman Animation, who animated the series’ first stop-motion short.
The third season of Star Wars: Visions will be released on October 29, 2025. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
