The first season of Daredevil: Born Again introduced several compelling new characters alongside its returning cast, and I’m convinced that one of the most important new Marvel Universe characters will soon be killed off. Considering the details for season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, and where some of these characters seem to be headed, this seems almost inevitable. In a changed world, with a war on vigilantes being waged in the street, the future looks dark for Daredevil and his villains alike.
Bringing back the Netflix Daredevil characters was a challenging task, but many seem to think that Disney lived up to the task, especially with the setup for the Defenders to return. Following a complicated development, Born Again was finally released to rave reviews. Future seasons of the show are planned, and it looks like they hope to have each one released annually. As a result, I’m relieved that it will not be much longer until I find out if I was right about this character, and see how their disturbing ties to other characters could play out in the show.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 Has Already Suggested Daniel Blake’s Days Are Numbered
Blake Is Tied Up With Some Twisted And Crooked Villains
Daniel Blake is one of the most important new characters in Daredevil: Born Again, but the character has put himself into an extremely precarious position. While there have been all sorts of theories about Daniel Blake in the show, including the possibility of him being Kingpin’s son, none of these theories have been substantiated. Instead, Blake is a young political aide who seems committed to supporting Wilson Fisk in all of his endeavors. Anything more than this is only speculation.
While it is not clear if Fisk would go so far as to kill Blake, it certainly seems like a distinct possibility.
Still, Blake’s loyalty is ferocious and intense, and I believe this will cause problems. Fisk has expressed frustration about Blake’s actions throughout the show, and has even given him threats about what will occur if he messes up again. While it is not clear if Fisk would go so far as to kill Blake, it certainly seems like a distinct possibility. Adding in Blake’s loyalty there, and how that could cause issues with characters from Daredevil to Vanessa to Bullseye, it is unlikely that Blake will be able to survive much longer in the MCU show.
Daredevil’s Comic Ties Make Daniel Blake’s Death Seem More Inevitable
Shadowland And Devil’s Reign Both Seem Important To Season 2
After several set photos of Born Again season 2 appeared online, the story for the series has been pulled from two distinct comic book arcs. The most obvious is “Devil’s Reign,” a comic by Chip Zdarsky that sees superheroes being outlawed in New York City by Mayor Wilson Fisk. With incredible stakes, and an enormous cast of characters rising up to fight against Fisk, this story is almost certainly important to the upcoming season of the show. This violent examination of political opposition could easily catch Blake in its crosshairs.
Born Again also seems set to adapt “Shadowland,” a story that saw Daredevil becoming the leader of the Hand. With changing tides in New York City, and with set photos showing Daredevil in a black costume, it seems that these details may be part of the next season. With moral good and evil on unexpected sides of the law, allowing Blake to be collateral damage within this would be an effective way to create stakes. Whether or not Blake winds up fulfilling Richard Fisk’s role in the series, this would allow an important emotional tension for Kingpin.
Killing Off Daniel Blake Would Be The Perfect Way To Amp The Tension For Daredevil: Born Again
Some Important Characters Will Need To Die To Set Up The Stakes
Daredevil: Born Again is a gritty, grounded, and violent series, and that can only work if the stakes feel real and earned. This was what allowed Elektra’s death in the Netflix series to be effective. However, many characters are far too important to the narrative to be disposed of without enormous fanfare. Bullseye, Vanessa, Fisk, Karen, and many others would be far too drastic as choices to die on the show soon, especially after the loss of Foggy. However, Daniel Blake could be sacrificed in a way that would make the show even better.
Blake is very human, with a great number of relatable characteristics. He is foolish enough to make big mistakes, and passionate enough to give all of himself in his pursuits to help Wilson Fisk. While I’m not sure that he would willingly give up his life for Kingpin, it is very believable that he might unwittingly wind up in a situation where that happens anyway. Losing Daniel Blake would be disappointing for viewers, but it would also help set up further tension and conflict for the series as a whole.

Despite the incredibly landmark events that unfolded in New York City in Daredevil: Born Again season 1, Spider-Man was completely absent.
Daniel Blake is not a beloved and esteemed comic book character, making his role in Daredevil: Born Again very fragile. It’s entirely possible he was introduced to die. By this point, I’m practically convinced that Blake will be killed off at some point, as this seems to be the best result for his role in the show. Whether that happens early in season 2, or even if it is somehow pushed even further down the line into season of Daredevil: Born Again, I would be shocked if Daniel Blake was not killed in the very near future of the Disney+ series.
